Milgard offers french doors with both fiberglass and vinyl door frames, and both offer different benefits that will add value to your home. One of the benefits of both Milgard’s fiberglass and vinyl french doors is the easy process of adjusting and operating them. This article goes over how to adjust and operate a Milgard® fiberglass and vinyl french door.

To complete the process of how to adjust and operate a Milgard® fiberglass and vinyl french door, you will need a ¼” Allen key and #2 Phillips head screwdriver. To know where to make the adjustments on your fiberglass or vinyl french door, check the gaps between the panels at the center and between the panels and the frames at the jamb, sill, and head.  You will determine where you need to adjust each panel to get equal sight lines.

The first step to how to adjust and operate a Milgard® fiberglass and vinyl french door is to find the hinge adjustment at the bottom of each hinge. You will then use the ¼” inch Allen key to raise or lower the panel. Turn the key clockwise to the raise the panel and counterclockwise to drop it. Adjust the top hinge first and then raise or lower the other two hinges.

For adjusting the panels for the jamb and center gaps, you need to locate the hinge adjustment screw which you will find attached to the panel on the hinge’s backside. Using the Phillips’s screwdriver, rotate clockwise to move the panel towards the hinge and counterclockwise to move it towards the center.

Finally, in how to adjust and operate a Milgard® fiberglass and vinyl french door, you will want to check and see if the mortise latch is in the right position. If you need to adjust the location of the mortise latch, you will first open the active panel. Now having access to the strike pin, you will compress it. Then, pull up on the handle to engage the lock. Remove the mortise latch and rotate it the correct position.

To lock your Milgard french door, move the handle up until it stops, then rotate the thumb turn to engage the lock. To unlock, once again, turn the thumb turn and push the handle down to deactivate all locking points. Now, you will be able to open your Milgard french door.
