Boost Your Curb Appeal

The internet has revolutionized the way people buy homes with 89% of people using it to find their new home. 63% of those people online shopping will then go drive by the home. This shows that curb appeal is still vital when it comes to the perceived value of a home. You don’t need to be selling your home to want to improve the curb appeal. You could have just moved in and want to give your home a personal touch. Or maybe you’ve lived in your home for years and it’s time for an update or facelift. You don’t have to spend a fortune doing this. We are going to show you some easy ways to improve your home’s curb appeal on a budget.

Start at the Top

The roof is the one part of the home that most homeowners tend to overlook. This is a huge mistake because the roof takes up a large portion of the visual space when looking at your home.

If your roof looks dingy, streaked, or green then it is time for a cleaning. Mix together some hot water, detergent, and bleach.

Use a sprayer to saturate a section of the roof and let it sit on the shingles for 15 minutes. Then gently scrub the shingles with a brush. Finish by rinsing clean.

If you have a tile roof then you can use a pressure washer on them. Do not use a pressure washer on shingles as you’ll damage them.

Replace the Numbers

If the numbers on your home are small and hard to see then it’s time to replace them. You also need to replace them if they are sun-faded or dingy and gross looking.

When buying your new numbers, think about the style of your home. You’ll want the numbers to look like they belong on your traditional or modern home.

Also, think about the color and size. You want the numbers to be easily seen from the road. As for color, pick one that contrasts with the color you will mount them on.

Pressure Wash

While you shouldn’t pressure wash your shingles, there are plenty of other surfaces on the front of your home that you can pressure wash.

If you have any wood such as the siding or a deck or porch you can clean it this way. This will help remove any mold, fungus, or other dirt. Just be sure you are using the right amount of pressure.

Get Planting

Sure, in the dead of winter there won’t be much greenery growing. However, there are some plants that will stay green or have blooms all year round.

These types of plants are perfect for making your home look inviting. They are also much less work for upkeep than perennials.

Replace the Front Door

Giving your front door an update is one of the easiest ways to completely change the look of your home. There are two ways you can do this.

First, you could simply clean and paint your front door. If your home and door are relatively new, this is a good way to go.

If your home is older though, you should think about replacing the front door.  This is especially true if the door is wood.

Think about the style of your home. Then select a door that will fit with that style. You could get fancy with some glass inserts.

Add Some Lighting

Is your front walkway lacking lighting? This makes your home dark and uninviting when the sun sets.

You can buy some solar powered light fixtures. They are inexpensive and super easy to install. When you go to place them, think about what you want to highlight around the front of your home.

Embrace the Paint

We’ve touched on painting your front door, but don’t stop there. You could freshen up your home by painting the shutters, window frames, and other trim pieces.

If you want to commit, you could paint the entire home. This will give your home a whole new look. Just be sure to pick the right color to fit the style of your home and any home owner’s restrictions.

Update Hardware

Don’t stop with just the house numbers. Take a look at the handle and lock on your front door and any light fixtures.

Select some new pieces that blend well together. Changing these small touches can give a new feel to the front of your home.

If you have a more traditional home, consider going with oiled bronze. While a brushed nickel tends to compliment more modern homes better.

Tile, Not Just for Your Bathroom

This one might be a bit more of an investment than others on this list depending on the size of your front step. If your front step area is concrete, then tiling it will give your home a classy new look.

Just be sure to choose a tile that is meant for outdoor use. You’ll want to make sure that it doesn’t become super slippery when it gets wet.

Think about a tile that will complement the rest of the home. You can go a more conservative route and look for a subtler stone like tile. Or you can go bold and look for a tile in a brightly colored pattern.

Curb Appeal on a Budget

Improving your curb appeal on a budget is a great way to make some major visual changes without breaking the bank. You should start with your roof, chances are you haven’t given it a look lately anyway.

So if it’s in tip-top shape, just give it a good cleaning. Then work your way down, does your home need repainting? Maybe you can get away with just sprucing up the trim paint.

Then look at the front door area. Consider replacing your front door. For a final touch, plant some annuals around the front yard area.
