5 Top Post-Construction Clean Up Tips for After a Major Home Renovation

Have you just finished renovating your house?

You must be chomping at the bit to finally relax and start enjoying your new space and you wouldn’t be the only ones… Indeed, home remodeling is a $450 billion industry! More people are embarking on home upgrades and alterations than ever before.

First thing’s first, though: with mounds of builder’s dust and detritus lying around, there’s still the unenviable matter of clearing up to consider. After the installation of your new doors or windows, US Window & Door installers will conduct a thorough inspection to make sure the job is completed in accordance with our high standards. They will also finish up with a thorough cleaning of the renovation area(s). Want some post-construction cleanup tips to round out the rest of your renovations? Keep reading for some of the best clean up tips.

1. Get Some Ventilation

Start by opening your windows!

After all, nobody wants to spend more time than necessary in a dusty, stifling space. The coming clean up will involve a lot of sweeping and dusting that’s sure to whisk builders’ dust up into the air.

Opening the windows will help get the fresh air in and let dust out. Any chemical smells from detergents and household cleaners will disperse more easily as well.

2. Clear Up the Rubbish

You probably have heaps of detritus lying around after your renovation too.

Plastic packaging, sawdust, waste materials, and any number of unwanted items might be scattered around your home. You’ll want to gather it all together and get rid of it!

A simple option would be to hire a professional rubbish removal company. Go here and, for a fee, they’ll collect rubbish from your doorstep and take it away on the very same day.

3. Vacuum and Sweep the Floors (and Then Dust)

It’s time to sweep up and/or vacuum the floors.

Many homeowners make a mistake at this point. They decide to dust their surfaces before they handle the floors. However, sweeping/hoovering the floors inevitably raises more dust into the air, which then settles on those freshly dusted surfaces!

Do it the other way around. Sweep and vacuum up the worst of the dust first (FYI, vacuuming is particularly important if you’ve got carpets). Only then should you move on and dust your remaining surfaces.

4. Wait a While

Just as your renovated walls needed multiple coats of paint, your floors and surfaces might need more than one round of cleaning.

That’s why it pays to wait a while after your first sweep, hoover, and dust ‘cycle’. Sit back for a few minutes and let the dust settle- literally. Then go back in for a second round!

5. Disinfect the Counters

The final step is to disinfect the hard surfaces in your house. After all, building dust and debris is hardly sanitary!

Use a cloth and some disinfecting surface cleaner to wipe away the germs and toxins that have accumulated in each room (especially the kitchen).

Time for Your Post-Construction Clean Up

Nobody enjoys the post-construction clean up after a long and arduous home renovation but it’s an essential last step before you can sit back and enjoy your new space (without all the dirt, dust, and debris around!). Hopefully, the tips for cleaning up in this post will help you do it with less hassle.
