The materials that you will need for this procedure are a flat head screwdriver, safety glasses, and gloves.

The first step is to locate the silver takeout clip on each side of the door jam. Then, making sure the sash is entirely closed, use your flathead screwdriver to pop out the silver takeout clips on one side of a sash at a forty-five-degree angle. Then repeat the process on the other side of the window sash.

After you remove all the silver takeout clips, locate the sash stops on the top corners of the window and remove them. Then, you need to pull up on the sash until you feel it disengage, and then make sure that both sides catch on the take out clips. If both sides catch, you will see the bottom of the spring loaded balancers. Then, you will know that you are past the engagement point. Now, you can slide the sash to one side to remove it.

Once you finish cleaning or maintenance on your Milgard single hung window, it is time to reinsert your window sash. First, place it above the bottom of the balancer. Line up the sash and press it in. Balance the sash back and forth until you feel both of the tabs catch. Then, you need to slide the sash down until you can’t see the balance or any metal on either side of the screen. Push both of your takeout clips in and reinstall the sash stops. You have now successfully removed and reinstalled your Milgard single hung window sash.
