The strength of the material makes it easier to bulk up on the window and door panes. Though metal itself is a good conductor (and therefore bad at holding temperature), panes can do a lot to trap heat or block unwanted light/UV rays.
They require little upkeep and are easy to clean, unlike wood windows that need to be treated to prevent splintering and weathering.
